Reliable, Pollution-Free Savings with Comfort
Solar water heating is a great first step in controlling rising energy costs. Make an in investment in your home and the environment with StraightUp Solar when you replace your old, inefficient hot water tank with a new solar water heating system.

How Solar Hot Water Works
A pump sends fluid to the panels on the roof where the fluid is heated. The heat in that fluid is transferred into the storage tank via a heat exchanger (the fluid in the panels is not the same fluid that comes out of your faucet). When you turn on the faucet you have hot water from the sun! Freeze protection is provided either by a drainback tank (shown in diagram) or by using glycol as the fluid in the panels. The storage tank has a heating element that provides additional heat on cloudy days.

About the Solar Hot Water Panels
Your Investment
Most residential systems include a solar tank and one or two panels. After the 30% federal tax credit, the net cost is typically between $4000 and $6,000. You will further improve your return on investment if you already needed to replace your existing tank.
